Blog #01: Equipping 100 Ghanaian Children with Literacy Skills for Life

In September, I announced the launch of a project very close to my heart: The Ghana Project. Over the past two months, I’ve been preparing for my first-ever 10KM race while working to raise £3,500 to support literacy for children in rural Ghana. Through the combined efforts of FEED’s 4 Weeks 2 Read and Lit Bag campaigns, our mission is simple but powerful—equip 100 Ghanaian children with the foundational literacy skills they need to thrive.

Why This Project?

The inspiration for this project was sparked by my recent trip to Ghana earlier this year. During my visit, I spent time with family, friends, and local acquaintances, and I had the chance to meet grassroots leaders committed to providing literacy education to young learners in rural Ghana. This experience underscored for me how vital literacy is—something many of us take for granted but which opens doors to opportunity, creativity, and understanding.

In Ghana, countless children lack access to the essential resources that make reading possible: books, trained educators, and safe learning spaces. After learning about Foundation for Educational Equity & Development’s work in Ghana and witnessing the impact of literacy firsthand, I felt compelled to act. For these children, the 4 Weeks 2 Read program isn’t just a reading intervention; it’s a path toward academic success, better job prospects, and a brighter future free from poverty. The Lit Bag, filled with age-appropriate reading materials, helps sustain their love for reading long after the initial program. Together, these initiatives offer a chance to make a life-changing difference—and I want to be part of that change.

The Journey Ahead

Starting today, we’ll be sharing regular, where we’ll document my journey of training, learning, and fundraising. I want to bring you along, sharing stories of the children we aim to help and insights into the challenges we’re tackling together. This campaign isn’t just about reaching a fundraising target—it’s about building a community around a cause, raising awareness, and creating lasting impact.

How You Can Help?

As I embark on this journey, I’m asking for your support. Together, we can raise the £3,500 needed to empower 100 children with literacy skills that will last a lifetime. Whether it’s a small donation, sharing this campaign with your network, or simply cheering us on, every gesture makes a difference. Let’s give these children the chance to read, to learn, and to thrive. You can contribute directly to the campaign here: click here. Thank you for considering being part of this journey with me. Together, let’s make literacy a reality for Ghana’s future generation.
