The Ghana Project 2025: Equipping 100 Children With Literacy Skills For Life
Earlier this month, we celebrated International Literacy Day—a day that reminds us how crucial the ability to read and write is in shaping a brighter future. At its heart, this day is about acknowledging the power of education, the challenges faced by those without access to it, and the opportunities literacy creates for individuals and communities around the world.
At RARA, we believe that literacy is more than just a basic skill—it’s a stepping stone to empowerment. The ability to read opens doors to education, employment, and independence. For millions of children around the world, however, those doors remain closed. This is especially true in rural Ghana, where many children lack the resources and support they need to become confident readers.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce The Ghana Project 2025—a campaign designed to provide 100 children in rural Ghana with the literacy skills they need to succeed. With your support, we’re working to raise £3500 to fund this transformative initiative through our partners at the FEED organisation.
What Is International Literacy Day?
For those unfamiliar, International Literacy Day was established by UNESCO in 1967 and is observed globally every year on September 8th. It’s a day to raise awareness about the importance of literacy, highlight the progress being made, and draw attention to the work still left to do. Literacy is a fundamental human right, yet more than 770 million people around the world are still illiterate, most of them women and children.
In places like rural Ghana, children face unique challenges that prevent them from accessing quality education—underfunded schools, limited resources, and a lack of trained teachers, to name just a few. This is where the Ghana Project steps in, and we need your help to make it a reality.
Changing lives, one child at a time
Through the Ghana Project, we’re partnering with FEED to provide two key programs for children in rural Ghana:
The '4 Weeks 2 Read' Program – An intensive, fun, and highly effective program that helps children build their reading skills in just four weeks. It’s structured to not only teach children to read but to inspire a love of reading that will carry them through their education and beyond.
The 'Lit Bag' Campaign – Each child receives a ‘Lit Bag,’ filled with essential reading materials like books, pencils, notebooks, and interactive games to help them learn. These bags are designed to support children both at school and at home, providing them with the tools they need to practice and grow.
Our goal is to raise £3500, which will fund 100 children through these programs. Every pound you donate will go directly towards empowering these children with the ability to read and access opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have. If just 100 people in our network gave £35 each, we would reach our goal and transform 100 children's lives.
How You Can Support
We believe that every child deserves the chance to read, and with your help, we can make that happen. To make the Ghana Project 2025 a reality and equip 100 children with the literacy skills they need for life. There are three key ways you can support our mission:
Donate to Our Fundraiser: Financial support is essential to achieving our goal. If 100 people each donate £35, we will reach our target of £3500 and guarantee the success of this project. Every pound goes directly towards providing literacy programs and resources for children in rural Ghana.
Share Our Campaign: Help us raise awareness by spreading the word. Sharing this campaign with your network amplifies our reach and brings us closer to making a real impact in these children’s lives.
Join Our Fundraiser Run: If you're a runner or just love a challenge, we invite you to join Chiedza Ikpeh (Co-founder and Director) and others in a 10KM charity run. It’s a great way to build momentum for our fundraiser and show your support in a fun, active way.
Whether through donating, sharing, or running, your involvement will make a difference. Let’s change lives, one child at a time. Ready to help us bring literacy to 100 children in Ghana? Click here to donate and support The Ghana Project today!
