Celebrating the Launch of the Sister Scholars Network

At RARA, we are beyond excited to celebrate the incredible work of our very own Chiedza Ikpeh (Co-Founder) and Iman Federico-Awi (Co-Director) in launching the Sister Scholars Network! This marks a significant milestone in our mission to create spaces of support, collaboration, and empowerment for Black and female postgraduates across the UK.

The Sister Scholars Network was officially launched with a fantastic brunch meet-up in Manchester last weekend, and the event was an overwhelming success. Black women from different disciplines and backgrounds across the UK came together to share their stories, exchange ideas, and connect on a deeply personal and professional level. The atmosphere was electric with warmth, energy, and solidarity, setting the perfect tone for what promises to be a powerful and transformative initiative.

What is the Sister Scholars Network?

The Sister Scholars Network is designed to be a dedicated community space for Black women postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across the UK. Our goal is to foster meaningful connections and offer tailored support for these scholars, providing resources, opportunities for collaboration, and platforms for their voices to be heard. Whether it’s through mentorship, academic workshops, or networking events, the Sister Scholars Network is committed to empowering Black women to thrive in their academic journeys and beyond.

Who is it for?

This network is for Black women postgraduates (PGRs) at all stages of their academic and professional development. Whether you’re just starting your postgraduate studies or well into your research career, this community is here to uplift and support you. The network seeks to break down the isolation often felt by Black women in the academy by creating a space where they can connect with like-minded scholars who understand their experiences and challenges.
